WE BELIEVE IN CHANGE
ABOUT US
South Africans can be very creative with its lingo. With 11 official languages, though we have more, including Ttotsi Taal (emerged in Sophiatown (also called “Die Kas”), and the Fanagalo (spoken at the mines) which is a mixture of other languages.
So, what is VRRRPHA? Even the webpage Mzansi Taal, mentions “It is a word used to refer to a vehicle that makes a semi explosive sound when changing gears, popularised by the Golf GTI, Audi and Mercedes Benz”.
Indeed, it is a sound so cool, that the German Automotive Industry had no clue that Mzansi would rename it, that today, it’s iconic with most people when the car passes in upshift of gear exchanges, that it produces something exhilarating in the Mzansi spirit. I suspect, that on a down day, when you just see a GTI passing, with it making that iconic sound, that it has an ability to bring a grin to a down spirit, if not a smile to a frown.
Thinking back to even a time when we had “Va Va Voom”, was when we were enticed to have more than just a mode of transport, but that it was coupled with a sense of purpose. VRRRPHA is more than just a mode of getting from A to B, but in moving there with excitement in our journey from more than A to B, but to beyond that. Not just at a place of arrival, or a place of obligatory travel, but to move to a destination (destiny).
VRRRPHA, is evolving into more than just a “kasi lingo”, but the major outlets have adopted it for its PHA-werful stance it makes. It’s a PHA-sionate place to be, where we journey with others, as we endeavor to build our nation.
Mzansi, lets arise, and build our nation through our innovative methods. VRRRPHA! Never Stop!
